Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, accompanied by Sahil Lochaab, visited the Parliament Street Police Station in Delhi following allegations of police excesses during student protests. Lochaab, a resident of Haryana, reportedly suffered pellet gun injuries during the demonstration at Jantar Mantar, which initially erupted over exam paper leaks. Opposition leaders met Deputy Commissioner of Police Sachin Sharma to demand the registration of a First Information Report and to seek updates on inquiries into the use of lathi charges and pellet guns. Demonstrators staged a sit-in outside the police station after officials allegedly refused to log the victim’s complaint. Delhi Police previously stated that unruly elements attempted to breach security toward Parliament during the July 20 protest. Simultaneously, political debates intensified nationwide over the national song Vande Mataram. The controversy expanded following statements regarding the performance of specific stanzas to align with religious traditions, prompting counterarguments from political figures emphasizing patriotic heritage, national unity, and historical decisions.
