On Friday morning, a woman was found under a train at Andrew Station.

There was a frightening scene at the Andrew Square MBTA station on Friday morning after a woman ended up underneath an inbound Red Line train.

According to Transit Police, the incident happened around 10:14 a.m. when a 51-year-old woman deliberately entered the tracks as a train was pulling into the station.

Boston firefighters arrived shortly after at 10:19 a.m. Once power to the tracks was shut off, crews were able to access the inbound tracks and carefully remove the woman from beneath the train. By about 10:35 a.m., she was brought up to the platform, where Boston EMS transported her to a local hospital.

Transit Police Superintendent Richard Sullivan said the woman was conscious and alert and did not appear to have obvious external injuries.

He also praised the MBTA operator involved in the incident.

“I cannot stress enough how impressed I am with the MBTA operator who, completely aware of their surroundings, took immediate action to bring the train to a stop,” Sullivan said.

The incident caused significant delays along the Red Line. At first, trains were running up to 30 minutes behind schedule, and shuttle buses were temporarily deployed between JFK/UMass and Park Street. Regular train service resumed around 11:20 a.m., though riders experienced lingering delays of about 15 minutes.
