Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban publicly acknowledge each other for first time since split

Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban have publicly acknowledged each other for the first time since their high-profile split.

Kidman and Urban finalised their divorce in January after 19 years of marriage, citing “irreconcilable differences”.

In a surprising move, country music singer Urban posted a birthday message for his ex-wife on Instagram over the weekend.

Kidman also shared a public Father’s Day tribute to Urban on Sunday, as the US celebrates the occasion in June.

Alongside a throwback picture of herself with her father, she posted an old photo of Urban with their two daughters, Sunday Rose and Faith Margaret.

Kidman also has two children, Isabelle and Connor, with her first husband, actor Tom Cruise — although they were not mentioned in the post.

The social media exchange between Kidman and Urban came as a surprise, with the former couple having not publicly acknowledged each other since their split.

The reason for the break-up was cited as irreconcilable differences, reports said at the time.

According to leaked divorce filings obtained by TMZ, Kidman is noted as the primary carer of the children.

The actress did not seek child support from Urban, with the wealthy pair both listing their gross individual incomes as “exceeding $100,000 a month”.

In a March interview, the Australian actress spoke about respect and gratitude when asked how she was coping following the separation and the toll it had taken.

Speaking to Variety at the time, Kidman admitted last year was not her year.

“I was quiet. I had other things going on,” she said, seemingly referring to the divorce.

“I was in my shell.”

Later in the interview, Kidman reflected on her “rough” year and addressed the question on everyone’s mind, confirming she was now learning to move forward following the separation.

“I’m always going to be moving toward what’s good,” Kidman said.

“What I’m grateful for is my family and keeping them as is and moving forward.

“That’s that. Everything else I don’t discuss out of respect.

“I’m staying in a place of ‘We are a family’ and that’s what we’ll continue to be.

“My beautiful girls, my darlings, who are suddenly women.”

Last week, speculation swirled about Kidman’s dating life after celebrity news site Deuxmoi claimed the actress was seeing a high-profile entertainment executive.

Kidman has not publicly addressed the rumours, though many fans appeared thrilled by the prospect of her moving on.
