Newtown: Knife-wielding woman charged after alleged stabbing ramping in Sydney’s west in broad daylight

New South Wales Police have charged a woman over an alleged stabbing in Sydney’s inner west on Monday.

Police were called to King Street in Newtown about 11.40am after reports a woman armed with a knife had allegedly assaulted a man.

At the scene, first responders found a 48-year-old man who had been stabbed in the hand by a woman not known to him.

“Officers attached to Inner West Police Area Command attended and found a 48-year-old man had allegedly been stabbed in the hand by an unknown woman,” the force said in a statement provided to The Nightly.

The man was treated at the scene by paramedics before being taken to hospital in a stable condition.

A short time later, police found a 26-year-old woman nearby allegedly armed with a knife.

After a brief stand-off with officers, police allege the woman was tasered after failing to drop the knife when ordered to.

She was then attested and later charged with wound person with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, armed with intent commit indictable offence, hinder/resist law enforcement officer in execution of duty and two counts of larceny.

The woman was refused bail and is due to appear before Bail Division Court 6 on Tuesday.
