Newcastle Jets sign Zane Schreiber ahead of ACL Elite campaign

Newcastle Jets boss Mark Milligan has added more depth to his squad ahead of the 2026-27 Isuzu UTE A-League campaign with the signing of former Melbourne City midfielder Zane Schreiber.

The 21-year-old joins the Jets as a free agent after leaving Melbourne City at the end of the 2025-26 campaign.

Schreiber spent the past three seasons with City racking up 62 appearances in total, 23 of which came for Aurelio Vidmar’s side during the last A-Leagues campaign.

The young midfielder was a member of the City team that claimed the Isuzu UTE A-League Championship in 2024-25 and brings with him plenty of experience having also featured for the club during last season’s ACL Elite campaign.

“I’m excited to get started, watching the jets last season really impressed me,” said Schreiber after his move was made official.

“As soon as I got the call, it was impossible to turn down the opportunity to play for this great club.

“I can’t wait to get to work and make history with the club domestically and in Asia.”

Jets boss Miligan has moved quickly in the wake of losing the likes of Clayton Taylor, Lachie Rose and Lachlan Bayliss from last season’s Premiership winning squad.

Greek striker Nikos Vergos has already joined from Melbourne Victory, with Schreiber becoming the second signing of the off-season.

“We are excited to bring Zane on board,” said Milligan. “For a young man he has already had some fantastic experiences in the game both locally and internationally through the Asian Champions League.

“We see a lot of potential in Zane and think he will thrive in the environment and add to a strong midfield unit.”

The club has also moved to tie down the futures of some of their most promising young talent with Jordan BaylisOliver Cockle and Alex Nunes all signing new deals.
