Narendra Modi 25 years in government: NDA on 25 years of PM Modi’s political journey

“Right leader, at the right time, in the right place”, “trusted by millions” and a “remarkable milestone” – NDA allies used these phrases to describe Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s 25-year journey at the helm of government, as they reflected on his political career from Gujarat to the Centre on Wednesday.

PM Modi completed 25 years as head of government on Wednesday, having first taken charge as Gujarat chief minister on October 7, 2001. After three terms in the state, he became Prime Minister in 2014 and has since won three consecutive Lok Sabha elections.

The milestone saw NDA leaders focus on different facets of his political journey, including continuity in governance, development, coalition politics and India’s expanding global role.

RIGHT LEADER, RIGHT TIME: N CHANDRABABU NAIDU

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu described the milestone as a “remarkable milestone” and said India was fortunate to have the “right leader, at the right time, in the right place”. He said the country was progressing towards the goal of Viksit Bharat @ 2047 under PM Modi’s leadership.

Naidu also highlighted the development push in Andhra Pradesh, saying the “double-engine bullet train sarkar” was accelerating development, investment, infrastructure and opportunities in the state. He said he was proud to work with PM Modi and extended his congratulations and wishes.

GOLDEN PAGE IN HISTORY: EKNATH SHINDE

Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde described October 7, 2001, as a “golden page in history”, saying PM Modi’s journey had been marked by “service, resolve, and dedication”.

Shinde also pointed to the principle of “Nation First”, saying national interest had remained above personal interests.

Shinde said the journey had reflected a significant change in India’s political, social and developmental path and wished PM Modi “good health, long life and strength” as he continued to serve the nation.

SIGNIFICANT CHAPTER IN INDIA’S DEMOCRATIC JOURNEY: SUNETRA PAWAR

Sunetra Ajit Pawar recalled PM Modi’s tenure as Gujarat chief minister, saying he had prioritised “electricity, water, agriculture, infrastructure and industrial development”. She said that since becoming Prime Minister in 2014, his focus had expanded to the poor, deprived, women, farmers and youth.

She described the completion of 25 years as a “significant chapter” in India’s democratic journey and extended her congratulations and wishes to PM Modi.

TRUST OF MILLIONS: JDU’S RAJIV RANJAN SINGH

JDU leader Rajiv Ranjan Singh, also known as Lalan Singh, congratulated PM Modi on completing 25 years of public service and good governance. He described the journey from Gujarat chief minister to Prime Minister as a reflection of the “trust of millions” and said it was a privilege to participate in the effort to build a self-reliant and developed India.

JDU leader Sanjay Kumar Jha also congratulated PM Modi, describing the 25-year journey as “seamless service” at the head of governance. He credited the leadership with stability during global crises, geopolitical uncertainties and rapid technological changes.

Jha also highlighted the handling of the pandemic, national interests amid global conflicts, India’s growing global stature, infrastructure development, welfare delivery and efforts against extremism and Naxalism.

PM BUILT ALLIES ON TRUST, MUTUAL RESPECT: HD KUMARASWAMY

Union Minister HD Kumaraswamy, drawing from his own experience in coalition politics, highlighted Modi’s approach to managing alliances and working with coalition partners.

“Over the past 25 years, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has demonstrated that coalition and alliance politics can be built on trust, mutual respect and a shared commitment to the nation,” Kumaraswamy said.

He said Modi had ensured that alliance partners were given political space and were not treated as junior participants in the coalition.

“He has never allowed his alliance partners to feel that they are any different or any less important. He has brought all of us together as one family, given allies the freedom to contribute and, whenever required, provided the guidance and support necessary to move forward,” Kumaraswamy said.

For Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) spokesperson Rajesh Singh, the significance of Modi’s 25-year political journey lies in the distance he has travelled, from grassroots politics in Gujarat to the country’s highest elected office.

“When we talk about Narendra Modi’s 25 years in politics, I think we are talking about much more than just numbers or positions. We are talking about a journey from the grassroots of Gujarat to the highest political office in India,” Singh said.

INSPIRED MILLIONS: SIKKIM CM TAMANG

Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang said PM Modi’s 25 years in public service had “inspired millions” and strengthened the spirit of “Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas, and Sabka Prayas”.

Tamang also highlighted PM Modi’s focus on the Northeast, particularly connectivity, holistic development and the region’s integration with the country’s broader development journey.

“On the historic and momentous occasion marking the completion of 25 remarkable years in public service by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, I extend my heartiest congratulations and warmest greetings to him on behalf of the people and the Government of Sikkim,” Tamang said.

He added that Sikkim was grateful for PM Modi’s support, guidance and affection, and said, “I convey my warmest felicitations and pray for his continued good health, strength and long life, as he continues to guide the nation towards greater progress, prosperity, peace and global leadership.”

Meanwhile, PM Modi marked the occasion himself by offering prayers at the Shri Vinayaka Temple in Sarojini Nagar, New Delhi. He said he prayed for the “happiness, prosperity and good health” of family members across the country and sought the grace of Lord Ganesha for the nation’s growth.
