The Mexican restaurant will move its dinner service to sister cafe The Smoot Standard, which will continue serving breakfast and lunch.
Naco Taco will close its Cambridge location on Nov. 1, but the Mexican restaurant will continue serving customers at its sister cafe, The Smoot Standard, just down the street.
The cafe, at 313 Massachusetts Ave., will continue serving breakfast, lunch, and its usual cafe offerings from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. After a one-hour break, it will reopen from 4 to 10 p.m. with Naco Taco’s Mexican menu, according to The Cambridge Somerville Independent.
“Thank you so much to everyone who joined us at our flagship location over the years. We are grateful that we got to be a small part of what makes Central Square so special,” owners Alex Tannenbaum and Yared Lacey wrote in a social media post Friday.
“You can expect the tacos and Mexican food you know and love for dinner, while Smoot will continue to serve breakfast, lunch and cafe offerings daily,” the owners wrote.
The taco truck will continue to serve customers around the city and state, according to Naco Taco’s post.
The owners also promised a “proper send off on Halloween night” with Maji Mazuri Tickets start at $11.99.

The group opened Naco Taco 11 years ago. In 2024, it took over the former Darwins Ltd. cafe and turned it into The Smoot Standard, named for Oliver Smoot, an MIT student whose height became the unit of measurement when fraternity brothers used him to measure the Harvard Bridge in 1958. The resulting unit, the smoot, remains marked on the bridge today.
