A Mawson Lakes couple are preparing for a new chapter of travel and family time after coming forward to claim a $2.2 million Saturday X Lotto prize.
The grandparents held one of nine division one winning entries nationally in draw 4709, held on Saturday 5 September 2026, taking home $2,222,222.23.
Their ticket was not registered to The Lott Members Club, meaning lottery officials were unable to contact them and had to wait for the mystery winners to come forward.
The winning husband said he was still coming to terms with the news after checking the results that morning.
“We’re a bit emotional. I saw it in the morning and I didn’t believe it,” he said.
“I’ve been playing for over 40 years. I play Saturday every week. I’m honestly still not thinking straight. We’re just so shocked and going through all the emotions.”
With the win now confirmed, the couple are looking forward to sharing their good fortune with their children and grandchildren, as well as enjoying more of the world together.
“We’ve got a few kids and grandkids we can help. It’s wonderful,” he said.
“Now we can just travel and enjoy life! We’ve done a bit of travel, but we have been wanting to go on some European cruises so I think we’ll be ticking those off the bucket list now!”
The winning entry was purchased at Mawson Central Newsagency, Shop 12 Mawson Central, 9–15 Main Street, Mawson Lakes.
Newsagency owner Elizabeth Dreimann said the team was delighted to celebrate another major win for the local community. Remarkably, it is the store’s third division one winning ticket in three years, with the previous winner sold in December 2024.
“You beauty! We’re celebrating with plenty of excitement and sending our very best wishes to the winner,” Elizabeth said.
“Our customers are going to be really excited when they hear the news. We’re a local community newsagency and many of our customers are well known to us, so our whole team is incredibly happy for whoever is holding this winning ticket.”
The winning numbers were 40, 27, 17, 43, 5 and 38, with supplementary numbers 2 and 39.
Across Australia, nine entries won division one in the draw: three in New South Wales, three in Victoria, two in Western Australia and one in South Australia. The result brings The Lott’s division one tally to 261 for the calendar year, including 24 won by SA Lotteries customers.
