A 7-year-old riding a bicycle was struck and killed by a vehicle in Williamstown on Friday, officials said.

The collision happened at the intersection of Main Street and Buxton Hill Road around 5:40 p.m., the Berkshire District Attorney’s office said in a press release.

The child traveled down Buxton Hill Road toward Main Street. Preliminary findings indicate they entered Main Street “unintentionally,” where they were struck by the vehicle, according to the DA’s office.

The child, who was wearing a helmet, died from their injuries at the scene, the DA said.

The DA’s office confirmed on Sunday that no arrests have been made and no charges have been filed in connection with the incident. Prosecutors further noted the vehicle’s driver was “not impaired by drugs or alcohol.”

The bicyclist has only been publicly identified as a 7-year-old from Williamstown. The victim’s family has requested privacy, the DA’s office said.

The incident remains under investigation.
