Emirati athlete Maryam Karim has booked her place in the semifinals of the women’s hurdles at the 2026 World Athletics U20 Championships in Eugene, Oregon.
Karim finished first in her qualifying heat at Hayward Field and also led the overall qualification standings.
The Emirates News Agency reported that Karim finished ahead of Germany’s Rebekka Feirle and Romania’s Alexandra Ștefania, who placed second and third respectively in qualifying.
Karim, who previously received the Best Asian Female Under-18 Athlete award, was praised by the UAE Athletics Federation following her performance.
Her place in the semifinals gives the UAE another appearance in the latter stages of a major global athletics competition as the championships continue at Hayward Field.
Karim will return to the track for the semifinals on Sunday, August 9.
