Jana Sena Party (JSP) Political Affairs Committee (PAC) chairman and Civil Supplies Minister Nadendla Manohar on Wednesday asked the party cadre to be fully prepared for the local body elections, and said the decision of party president and Deputy Chief Minister K. Pawan Kalyan on seat adjustments and allocations would be final.
Addressing the concluding session of the party’s local body elections awareness programme at Tadepalli, Mr. Manohar said coordination committees should actively engage with the party workers and ensure that Jana Sena was prepared to contest strongly and win wherever it entered the electoral fray.
“The party president’s direction is supreme. Discharge the responsibilities assigned to you in the coordination committees with commitment. The party president will take care of seat adjustments and allocations,” he said.
Mr. Manohar directed the committees to remain in active mode from Thursday and regularly report the ground situation to the leadership. A special format from the party’s central office would have to be filled in carefully and submitted, he said.
Mr. Manohar said Mr. Pawan Kalyan would be available from September 15 and that meetings, consultations and teleconferences would be held regularly. Party representatives attending NDA parliamentary meetings should put forward only the party’s policy position, while matters relating to seat sharing would remain within the party president’s purview, he said.
Word of caution
Jana Sena general secretary and MSME Development Corporation chairman T. Sivashankar cautioned party workers against attempts by political opponents to create differences within the party and among alliance partners.
He alleged that political opponents could spread misinformation and create disputes to weaken unity among the alliance parties, and urged the cadre to rely only on information communicated through the party’s central office.
Mr. Sivashankar also alleged that the YSR Congress Party could use money and propaganda during the local elections. He advised Jana Sena workers and Veera Mahilas to remain vigilant and formulate strategies based on local conditions.
He cautioned party workers against complacency merely because the party was part of the government, and stressed the need for coordination with senior leaders and gaining electoral experience through the local body polls. He alos called upon the cadre to follow the decisions of Mr. Pawan Kalyan and work as a disciplined political force in the elections.
