Man kills wife and sister-in-law, surrenders before police

A man allegedly killed his estranged wife and her younger sister after his wife refused to return to their home in J.J. Colony of Chintamani.

According to the police, the accused, identified as Ajaz, 41, working in an almirah repairs shop, had been married to Shama , 36, for eight years, and the couple has three children.

Around two months ago, Shama left the home with the children following frequent domestic disputes and began living with her parents. Despite repeated requests by Ajaz for her to return, she allegedly refused.

On Monday morning, Ajaz reportedly travelled from Kolar to Chintamani, entered the house where Shama was staying, and allegedly slit her throat while she was asleep. He then allegedly killed her younger sister, Reshma, before fleeing from the scene.

The police said that after the double murder, Ajaz took his three children on his motorcycle to Kolar, left them at his house, and later walked into the Galpet Police Station, where he allegedly confessed to the murders and surrendered.

The preliminary investigation has revealed that Ajaz was addicted to alcohol and gambling, leading to frequent quarrels between the couple. The police suspect that Shama had been considering divorce due to the alleged harassment.

During questioning, Ajaz allegedly told investigators that Reshma and other members of Shama’s family were preventing his wife from returning to him. The police suspect that this could be the motive behind Reshma’s murder as well.

The Chintamani Town Police have taken the accused into custody and are continuing the investigation.
