Major City Set to Get New Airport

The Pakistan Airports Authority (PAA) on Wednesday held the kick-off meeting for the feasibility study, master planning and detailed design services of the proposed Greenfield Airport in Sukkur, formally launching a major aviation infrastructure project for upper Sindh.

The project is being carried out by the PAA in collaboration with an international and local joint venture led by Germany-based M/s M2P Consulting GmbH as the lead consultant.

The consultancy consortium also includes United Kingdom-based M/s Leit-Werk Limited as a foreign expert, along with local firms M/s Indus Associated Consultants Lahore and M/s Cosmic Engineering Consultants Islamabad.

Director General Pakistan Airports Authority Air Vice Marshal Zeeshan Saeed chaired the meeting, which was attended by Deputy Director General (Works and Development) Sumair Saeed, Director Planning and Development Ghulam Abbas Sheikh and other senior officials.

Representatives from regional administration, government departments, aviation stakeholders and the business community also participated in the session. During the meeting, consultants briefed participants on the project’s work plan, including feasibility assessments, master planning and design development, followed by discussions with stakeholders.

Officials and business leaders expressed support for the proposed airport project, highlighting its importance for improving regional connectivity and economic activity. According to the PAA, the proposed Greenfield Airport is expected to strengthen trade, investment, tourism and overall economic growth in upper Sindh and nearby regions.
