“We’d love to have that back, that site has potential for us,” Balls said, though he confirmed that the club does not currently hold ownership of Hazelwood and that negotiations are still under way.
Daniels co-founded the energy firm PE Solutions with two partners roughly a decade ago, with the company reportedly reaching an annual turnover of £1.4billion within seven years.
Despite what Balls described as “a serious amount of money” underpinning the project, the new chairman is determined to avoid bankrolling the club indefinitely.
Balls said: “He doesn’t want to be seen as a sugar daddy. What he wants to see is, if you want X amount of millions here, you show me how that’s going to become sustainable.”
