Kerala: 20 injured as bus swerves to avoid 2-wheeler, crashes into petrol pump in Ernakulam – Kerala News

At least 20 people were injured after a tourist bus carrying around 35 passengers crashed into the side of a petrol pump on Thursday, police said. The bus was carrying a group from Kalady who were travelling to attend a wedding.

The accident took place at Kakkoor in Ernakulam district. According to police, CCTV footage showed the bus swerving after a two-wheeler suddenly turned across the road. The driver appeared to apply the brakes and turn the bus to avoid hitting the rider, after which the vehicle veered off the road and hit the side of the petrol pump.

Police said the passengers, including children and elderly people, were injured in the crash. Another two-wheeler parked near the petrol station was also in the path of the bus, but its rider escaped without being hit.

The impact caused the bus to overturn, leaving several passengers trapped or injured. Locals rushed to the spot and helped evacuate the passengers, while ambulances took the injured to nearby hospitals.

Police said the accident could have led to more casualties as the bus was carrying around 35 people and the crash happened on a busy stretch.

They added that the absence of vehicles and people in the area where the bus hit the petrol pump helped prevent further injuries. Police are examining the CCTV footage and investigating the circumstances that led to the accident.
