The Karnataka government has expressed serious concerns about petrol quality and consumer safety after tests showed ethanol blends exceeding the E20 standard. Samples collected from seven districts, including Bengaluru, revealed ethanol levels as high as 31.2 per cent. Oil marketing companies initially evaded questions about ethanol content, leading to state-commissioned lab tests. With vehicle manufacturers warning against blends higher than E20, Karnataka plans to report its findings to central authorities, calling for investigation and motorist protections.
