Jantar Mantar Protest Live: Cops remove Wangchuk from protest site, take him to hospital; his vitals stable

Congress leader Udit Raj on Saturday criticised the Centre after climate activist Sonam Wangchuk was shifted to a hospital on the 21st day of his hunger strike, alleging that the government was suppressing peaceful democratic protests. Speaking to news agency PTI, Raj said the government had a history of ignoring protest movements, citing the farmers’ agitation as an example.

“This government suppresses those who seek justice through democratic means. The farmers’ movement is the best example of this. Around 750 farmers lost their lives, yet it had no impact on the government. We are witnessing the same thing here. Sonam Wangchuk’s health is deteriorating. I myself visited him yesterday to appeal, but it makes no difference to this government. This government is not allowing people to observe a democratic hunger strike or hold peaceful demonstrations,” he said.
