Introducing Batliwala & Co., a Dubai love letter to Bombay’s Irani café culture

Rooted in Bombay’s Parsi heritage, Batliwala & Co. reimagines an iconic dining culture with craft, character and full Burj Khalifa views.

Batliwala & Co., Dubai’s newest fully licensed Irani café and bar, opens in Bay Square as a love letter to the Irani cafés of Bombay, spaces that shaped the city’s social fabric and held its stories for more than a century. Born in Bombay and recreated with love, the restaurant honours a dining culture that once thrived across the city, where red checked tables, warm chai and shared plates welcomed people from every walk of life.

The spirit of the Irani café began over 1,200 years ago, when Zoroastrian settlers fleeing Persia first arrived in Gujarat and later made their way to Bombay. Their cuisine carried the imprint of travel, gentle flavours, balanced spices and dishes shaped by migration and cultural exchange. As generations of Iranis settled in Bombay and the surrounding areas, this heritage blended naturally with local influences, creating a unique food culture that became inseparable from the city itself.

Batliwala & Co. captures this history in a modern Dubai setting, framed by full Burj Khalifa views and subtle nods to classic Bawa style. The menu celebrates the dishes that defined these institutions, from Bun Maska with chai to Kheema Pao, Dhansak, Kolmi Patio, Mawa Cake, Lagan nu Custard and the famed Britannia style Berry Pulao. Each plate reflects the mild, carefully balanced flavours that characterise Parsi cooking, shaped by centuries of adaptation and connection.

The drinks programme continues this storytelling with cocktails inspired by Bombay’s rhythm and humour, including Berry Fatakri, Cilantro ni Chhutti, Irani Biscuit Old Fashioned, Guava Bawa and High Chai. Nostalgic Irani sodas such as Pallonji’s and the ASLI Thums Up add a further layer of heritage, both deeply rooted in India’s culinary landscape.

The kitchen is led by Chef Saurabh Kailash Modi, whose 25 year international career spans Melbourne, New York, London and India. His experience includes Crown Casino & Restaurants, Grand Hyatt New York, the pre opening of Soma at Grand Hyatt Bombay, Bombay Dreams in London where he placed runner up at the Tiffin Curry Awards at the House of Commons, The Cinnamon Club at Westminster Abbey under Chef Vivek Singh and leadership roles across Masala Library, Farzi Café, Masala Bar and numerous openings across India, the UAE, the UK and Canada. He has also consulted widely across the region and most recently served as Head Chef with JKS Restaurants in London. Batliwala & Co. stands as one of his most personal projects.

Located at DoubleTree by Hilton, Business Bay, Batliwala & Co. offers an elevated yet approachable experience with a walk in only policy, a fully licensed bar and daily service from 5 pm until late. With its distinctive atmosphere, deep cultural heritage and contemporary edge, it is set to become one of Dubai’s most memorable neighbourhood openings.
