India travel advisory Iran updated: Embassy cites improved security, urges caution

India has updated its travel advisory for Iran, saying the overall security situation has improved while continuing to urge citizens to avoid all non-essential travel to the country, according to revised guidance issued by the Indian Embassy in Tehran on June 24.

The Embassy said it had been closely watching the security situation in Iran and had updated its advisory in view of recent positive developments and better conditions. Even so, it said Indian nationals should continue to avoid non-essential travel to Iran until further notice.

Indian citizens already living in Iran, as well as those who may have to travel there for unavoidable reasons, have been asked to exercise a high degree of caution, stay vigilant at all times and maintain constant situational awareness. The advisory also asked them to closely track local developments through credible sources of information and follow all instructions issued by the Iranian authorities.

The Embassy further advised all Indian nationals currently in Iran, and those arriving there, to register their details with the mission at the earliest opportunity. Indian citizens were also asked to regularly check the Embassy’s official website and social media platforms for updates and any further advisories.

The revised advisory comes at a time when the Embassy has described the security environment in Iran as improved but still sensitive. The first round of talks between the United States and Iran, aimed at reaching a final agreement to end the conflict, ended with what mediators Qatar and Pakistan called encouraging progress.

In a joint statement issued early Monday, Qatar and Pakistan said the parties had agreed on a roadmap to work towards a comprehensive deal within the next 60 days. Last week, Tehran and Washington signed a memorandum of understanding to lay the groundwork for the negotiations after nearly 40 days of fighting, followed by a shaky and repeatedly broken ceasefire.

India’s updated advisory reflects the improved conditions in Iran while maintaining caution, with the Embassy continuing to advise against non-essential travel and asking Indian nationals in the country to remain alert, follow local instructions and stay in touch with official updates.
