There are people who have a signature scent and then there are people like me, whose dressing table looks like a very small, very fragrant airport duty-free. Being a beauty writer means trying enough new fragrances to know that the first spray is almost never the whole story. Some smell beautiful for exactly 11 minutes. Some turn strangely sharp in the heat. Some are lovely on a paper strip but become unrecognisable on skin. And some follow you through a full day, surviving cabs, humidity, coffee runs and the general violence of city life.
So I have started treating fragrance less like a spur-of-the-moment decision and more like a small field test. I spray it on my wrist, then wait. I wear it on a regular workday, then on a long commute, then somewhere slightly more formal. I check if it still smells good after lunch, if it becomes too sweet in the heat, if it lingers on clothes, if someone asks what I am wearing and most importantly, if I still like it by the time I get home.
Some are fruity and bright, some are warm and creamy, some feel fresh enough for summer and some are better saved for dinner plans, weddings or days when your outfit needs help doing the talking. What they have in common is that they all passed the test: they did not bore me, disappear on me or make me wish I had sprayed something else.
Below, the 10 new fragrances I can’t stop thinking about right now:
Lancôme Idôle Peach’N Roses
Peach in fragrance can easily become too sweet, but this one keeps it fresh, taking the rose scent of the original Idôle and adding peach, berries and a brighter fruity feel. It does not smell sugary; it smells fresh and easy to wear. I would wear it during the day, especially for brunch, work, errands, holidays or any morning when you want to smell feminine without choosing something too intense.
