ILT20 Season 4 opens on UAE National Day

The DP World ILT20 returns on Tuesday, opening its fourth season with a meeting between the defending champions Dubai Capitals and last year’s runners-up, the Desert Vipers, at Dubai International Stadium. The match coincides with UAE National Day and will follow a short opening ceremony headlined by singer Ali Zafar.

This year’s tournament arrives with a few changes. A player auction was held for the first time, and the league now includes cricketers from Saudi Arabia and Kuwait. Captains from all six franchises met in Dubai on Monday to outline their expectations.

Gulbadin Naib, who leads Dubai Capitals again, said his side will try to build on last season’s title run:

“We’ve added new faces and they’re keen to make an impact. We know the conditions and we had great support last year.”

Lockie Ferguson, captain of the Desert Vipers, spoke about the group’s familiarity:

“We played good cricket last season, and the aim is to push on. We’ve added depth to the attack with Naseem Shah, David Payne and Khuzaima Tanveer.”

Jason Holder takes over at Abu Dhabi Knight Riders and kept his message simple:

“We have a lot of power and depth. It’s about getting the best out of that.”

For the Gulf Giants, Moeen Ali said the side want to return to title contention after missing the playoffs last season.

“The quality has gone up. A lot will come down to how strong our local players are.”

Kieron Pollard leads MI Emirates this year and pointed to the strength of their UAE contingent, including Muhammad Waseem and Zahoor Khan.

“You always get top international players in this tournament, so the competition is high.”

Sharjah Warriorz captain Tim Southee backed his squad to progress from last season.

“UAE players have improved again, and players from Kuwait and Saudi will add to that.”

Tickets for the opening match start at AED 20, with hospitality options also available. Broadcasters from Australia, Africa and Southeast Asia have joined the league’s coverage this season.
