Illustrator and animator Mai Yoneyama has shared a 55-second-long animation for her recent solo exhibition, YONEYAMA MAI EXHIBITION “arc,” which ran from December 6 to December 28 at Ginza Tsutaya Bookstore.
The animation begins with slightly sketchy but still elegant line art and later adapts color and shading. There is some impressive morphing animation on display as well.
The drawings that make up this animation, as well as others that were also featured at the exhibition, can be found in a 264-page flipbook that’s being sold.
Yoneyama made her key animation debut on 2010’s Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt. Some of her credits include the viral “COLORs” music video (character designer and animation director), FLCL Progressive (sub-character designer), the “Yoku” music video (director, storyboarder, character designer, and main animator), Cyberpunk: Edgerunners (ending animation director, storyboard artist, color planner, key animator, compositor), and Lazarus (ending animation director and key animator). She also contributed layouts for the transformation sequences in New Panty& Stocking with Garterbelt‘s “The Brothers from Heaven” skit.
YONEYAMA MAI EXHIBITION “arc” was Yoneyama’s first solo exhibition in around two years,
