Home Minister Priyank Kharge
Home Minister Priyank Kharge has directed all police units across the State to mandatorily conduct monthly grievance redressal meetings for police officers and personnel belonging to the Scheduled Castes (SCs) and Scheduled Tribes (STs).
The Minister said that every second Sunday of the month would continue to be observed as “Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe Day”, during which the Police Department must hold hearings to address service-related issues, welfare concerns and other problems faced by SC/ST police personnel.
Mr. Kharge said that instructions have been issued to the Director-General and Inspector-General of Police (DG&IGP) to ensure strict implementation of the directive.
He noted that a Standing Order had already mandated such meetings across all police commissionerates, district police offices, armed reserve units, special police wings and other police establishments in the State.
However, the government has received reports that these meetings are not being conducted regularly in several places.
He directed that all petitions, complaints and the action taken on them must be properly documented during each meeting. Issues that can be resolved immediately should be addressed on the spot, while matters requiring government approval or policy-level decisions should be forwarded to the appropriate authorities without delay.
