Adil Rashid returned after a hand injury, while Sam Curran was included following a groin problem. Jofra Archer was rested and Jos Buttler missed the trip because of a hamstring injury.
Mason Crane, James Coles and Henry Crocombe were also selected, with all three uncapped in the ODI format when the squad was announced.
Those selection questions provide the wider backdrop to the trip, but Brook’s batting took centre stage in Rawalpindi.
