Haitian Government Escalates Crackdown on Gangs with Zero-Tolerance Policy and Weekly Security Coordination – L’union Suite

Haitian authorities have announced a stronger and more structured response to combat gang violence, including a nationwide permanent security alert and intensified offensive operations across the country.

On Wednesday, May 20, 2026, Prime Minister Alix Didier Fils-Aimé convened a high-level security meeting at the Prime Minister’s Office with top officials from the Haitian National Police (PNH), the High Command of the Armed Forces of Haiti (FAd’H), Minister of Defense Mario Andresol, leaders of the Gang Suppression Force (GSF), and operational commanders currently deployed in the field.

The meeting focused on assessing the current national security situation and finalizing new aggressive measures aimed at reclaiming territories occupied by armed groups. This strategic meeting has now been institutionalized and will take place every Wednesday, establishing a permanent mechanism for evaluating progress, coordinating efforts, and preparing joint interventions between the country’s security forces.

The government has declared a nationwide permanent security alert (“permanence sécuritaire nationale”) across Haitian territory. Operations led by the Haitian National Police, supported by the Armed Forces and the Gang Suppression Force, will be immediately reinforced, intensified, and sustained without interruption until full state authority is restored in all affected areas.

Authorities also announced a firm zero-tolerance policy toward armed gangs, their affiliates, logistical supporters, financiers, and all individuals who directly or indirectly contribute to insecurity in the country.

“No territory will be abandoned. No complicity will be tolerated. No criminal financing will go unpunished,” officials stated.

The government concluded with a strong message of resolve: “The State is standing firm. The response is underway. The Republic will prevail. Order will be restored.”

This latest push comes as Haiti continues to grapple with a prolonged security crisis, with gangs controlling significant portions of the capital and other regions, displacing hundreds of thousands of people and severely disrupting daily life.
