The Haitian women’s national team secured qualification for the 2026 Concacaf W Championship on Friday night, finishing atop Group D after a hard-fought 1-1 draw against the Dominican Republic at Stade Roger Zami.
The result was exactly what Haiti needed. Entering the final match with a two-point lead over their Caribbean rivals, a draw was sufficient to claim first place in the group and advance to the prestigious regional championship.
The first half remained scoreless, with both teams trading chances in a tense and physical battle. Haiti controlled much of the possession but struggled to break through a disciplined Dominican defense.
The deadlock was finally broken in the 67th minute when Jennyfer Limage delivered a perfectly weighted long ball over the top. Forward Sherly Jeudy rose brilliantly and flicked a clinical header past the goalkeeper to give Haiti a 1-0 lead. The goal sent the Haitian bench and supporters into wild celebration.
The Dominican Republic responded with urgency just six minutes later. In the 73rd minute, Stella Tapia capitalized on a loose header from a Haitian defender inside the penalty area and unleashed a powerful strike into the back of the net, leveling the score at 1-1.
Despite late pressure from the visitors, Haiti’s defense held firm through the final minutes to secure the vital draw.
Final Group Standings
Haiti finished the group stage with an impressive 3-1-0 record (10 points and a +16 goal difference), comfortably ahead of the Dominican Republic, who ended with a 2-2-0 record (8 points and a +13 goal difference).
Haiti’s campaign was highlighted by dominant attacking performances and high-scoring victories earlier in the group, showcasing the depth and talent of Les Grenadières.
As Group D winners, Haiti has officially booked its ticket to the 2026 Concacaf W Championship, joining the region’s top women’s national teams in the competition.
For the Dominican Republic, the draw marked the end of a competitive campaign, falling just short of qualification.
This qualification represents another important milestone for Haitian women’s football and continues the upward trajectory of the national team on the regional stage.
