Haiti’s women’s soccer team opened its Concacaf W Qualifiers campaign in emphatic fashion Sunday night, defeating Belize 9–0 at FFB Stadium in Belmopan behind a four-goal performance from captain Nérilia Mondésir.
The lopsided victory marks a statement start for a Haitian side seeking to qualify for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Brazil, following its history-making appearance in the 2023 edition in Australia/New Zealand.
Haitiwasted no time asserting dominance. Mondésir triggered the scoring in the 12th minute with a sharp finish from a tight angle. Just a minute later, forward Batcheba Louis doubled the lead, muscling past a defender to bury a long ball from Roseline Éloissaint.
By the 32nd minute, Mondésir had already logged a hat trick, scoring again in the 18th and 32nd minutes as Belize struggled to contain Haiti’s relentless pressing and pace. Éloissaint added Haiti’s fifth goal in the 43rd minute after outracing the Belizean backline.
Louis opened the second half with her second of the night in the 50th minute, finishing a loose rebound in the box. Mondésir chipped the goalkeeper in the 63rd minute to secure her fourth goal and Haiti’s seventh.
Star midfield and reigning Concacaf player of the year, Melchie “Corventina” Dumornay, capped the night with a penalty in the 78th minute and a composed solo finish in the 87th, sealing her brace and Haiti’s 9–0 rout.
The win immediately places Haiti atop Group D, part of a qualifying cycle that runs through April 2026.
In a group of five national teams, including Haiti, Suriname, Belize, Dominican Republic and Anguilla, the format is a single round-robin contest: each team plays four games—two at home and two away —and only the group winner moves on. That next stage, the 2026 Concacaf W Championship, is where Haïti could secure a spot at both the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup and the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles, California.
A strong start for a team with global ambitions
The result reinforces Haiti’s regional standing despite the off-field instability facing the Haitian Football Federation (FHF), which has struggled financially and organizationally in recent years. Many players arrived to the qualifiers after competing in elite European and U.S. leagues — a growing trend that continues to strengthen Haiti’s competitiveness.
Haiti’s next matches will be in March 2026, when the team faces Suriname in a showdown that could determine the top of the group.
Meanwhile, Belize— hammered by Haiti in its first match—will need to regroup ahead of its Feb. 2026 match against the Dominican Republic.
With nine goals on the night, Haiti certainly delivered a message. The team wanted to start strong, stay focused, and show that.
Les Grenadières dominated from the start, controlling 75% of possession with 510 passes and 21 shots, while Belize only managed 80 passes and two shots on goal.
