Here are some of the most talked-about moments from the night.

Host Nikki Glaser roasts Leonardo DiCaprio

Comedian Nikki Glaser reminded Hollywood that no one is safe when she hosts the Golden Globes, even Hollywood royalty Leonardo DiCaprio.

“What a career you’ve had,” Glaser told the One Battle After Another star.

“Countless iconic performances. You’ve worked with every great director. You’ve won three Golden Globes, an Oscar, and the most impressive thing is that you were able to accomplish all of that before your girlfriend turned 30. It’s just insane.”

The crowd erupted as DiCaprio attempted to smile and laugh before Glaser apologised.

“I’m sorry I made that joke. It’s cheap. I tried not to, but we don’t know anything else about you man,” she said.

“There’s nothing else. I mean, open up. I’m serious. I looked, I searched. The most in-depth interview you’ve ever given was in Teen Week magazine in 1991.

“Is your favourite food still pasta, pasta and more pasta? Look it up. It’s real.”

Jessie Buckley thanks crew member for making soup

Accepting the Golden Globe for her role as Agnes Shakespeare in Hamnet, Jessie Buckley gave an unexpected shout-out to a crew member for making soup on set.

“I’d actually really like to thank our grip, Tomasz, because during shooting, Tomasz would disappear a little bit… and I found him one day at the back of his truck, and he was chopping up potatoes, and onions, and meat,” she said.

“He brought his ginormous cast-iron pot over from Poland, and he was making soup, and this soup started turning up on set. It was delicious.”

Amy Poehler wins first award for podcasting

The inaugural Golden Globe for Best Podcast was won by Good Hang with Amy Poehler.

As her name was read out, Snoop Dogg, who was announcing the award, revealed he was very high at the moment.

“This is exactly how I pictured it, Snoop (Dogg) giving me the award,” Poehler said in her acceptance speech.

“I don’t know about award shows, but when they get it right, it makes sense” she joked.

Adolescence star makes history

Owen Cooper, the 16-year-old star of the hit Netflix series Adolescence, has made history as the youngest person ever to have a clean sweep of the Emmys, Critics’ Choice Awards, and Golden Globes.

He is also the second-youngest male actor of all time to win a Golden Globe.

“Does not feel real whatsoever,” he said in his acceptance speech.

“I took a risk, and I went to drama classes and I was the only boy there, and it was embarrassing, but I got through it… I am still very much an apprentice.”

Wanda Sykes thanks God and trans community on behalf of Ricky Gervais

Presenting the award for Best Performance in a Stand Up Comedy, comedian Wanda Sykes thanked the Golden Globes for “having me”, adding that “because you know, there are some people p…ed off that a queer, black woman is doing the job of two mediocre white guys.”

Before announcing Ricky Gervais as the category winner, Sykes thanked the British comedian for “not being here”.

“No, I love you, Ricky,” she said, “because if you win, I get to accept the award on your behalf, and you’re going to thank God and the trans community.”

Gervais is an atheist and faced criticism in 2022 for making jokes about transgender people in his Netflix special SuperNature.

Leonardo DiCaprio ‘activated’ in ad break

Eagle-eyed viewers spotted a moment during an ad break where Leonardo DiCaprio was involved in a very animated conversation about K-Pop, however, we have no idea who it was with.

A lip-reader believes he said: “I was watching you with the K-pop thing, you were like, who’s that, is that, Oh, K-pop!”

Heated Rivalry stars present

Their show wasn’t nominated, and neither were they, but Heated Rivalry stars Hudson Williams and Connor Storrie owned the Golden Globes stage as they made their debut at the awards.

Basking in their newfound fame, the duo, who were not afraid to strip off in front of the camera for their TV series, proved they know their audience and played to it when handing out the award for Best Supporting Actor in a TV Series.

Appearing overwhelmed to be front and centre in the celeb-packed auditorium, Storrie started: “Sorry, it’s a little nerve-racking being here at our very first Golden Globes.”

But Williams reassured him, advising him to use a well-known public speaking trick, “Just take a deep breath and picture everyone in the audience… You know.”

“Oh! Yeah, I don’t know if that works, considering everyone has seen us… You know.”

Bobby Cannavale skips the show for wild reason

Aussie actress Rose Byrne had the crowd in hysterics as she accepted the award for Best Female Actor in a Motion Picture Musical/Comedy when she revealed the bizarre reason why her husband, fellow actor Bobby Cannavale, was not in attendance.

“Thanks to, you know, my mum and dad who bought Paramount Plus so they could watch the Golden Globes from Sydney…

“And I wanna thank my husband, Bobby Cannavale, who couldn’t be here because we’re getting a bearded dragon and he went to a reptile expo in New Jersey.”
