GM squashes concern over KC Concepcion alarming drop issues

As the Cleveland Browns made two picks in the first round of the 2026 NFL Draft, the latter of the selections was an interesting one at Texas A&M wide receiver KC Concepcion at No. 24, one that people have concerns with in a certain area. With the Browns picking offensive line Spencer Fano with the No. 9 selection, the Concepcion pick is one people are flagging, though general manager Andrew Berry would go into his thinking.

The one reservation people have about Concepcion is the drops, as he had 19 of them in the past two seasons of his collegiate career, the first being with North Carolina State and the latter being with the Aggies. Looking specifically at last season, Concepcion dropped over 10 percent of his targets, via Dawg Pound Daily, with Berry downplaying that aspect, calling the prospect a “dynamic producer.”

“Every receiver, besides maybe Larry Fitzgerald, has a couple drops,” Berry said, according to Browns Wire. “KC, he’s been a dynamic producer at NC State, Texas A&M, he’s electric with the ball in his hands, and we’re looking forward to having him.”

Browns’ Andrew Berry on feeling comfortable with KC Concepcion pick

Last season with Texas A&M, Concepcion would record 919 yards to go along with 61 receptions and nine touchdowns, averaging 15.1 yards per catch. Concepcion also returned punts for the Aggies, recording 456 yards and even scoring twice.

Berry would continue talking about the topic around the drops, saying how Cleveland is “comfortable” with his hands catching the football.

“It’s really relative to the population. Like I know that gets talked about, but he has natural dexterity,” Berry said. “You know, it’s nothing extreme or nothing out of, I guess it’s not an outlier, you know, relative to other receivers in the draft class. I know that’s been the primary talking point, but we’re comfortable with KC’s hands.”

At any rate, it remains to be seen if the drops with Concepcion end up becoming a problem with the Browns, or if Berry proves to be right in not being too much of an issue. Cleveland continues with the NFL Draft on Friday and Saturday.
