The internet is having a proper laugh at Aaron Pierre‘s South London accent slip-up during an explosive scene in the latest episode of hit HBO Max series Lanterns.

In the now-viral scene, Pierre (who plays superhero-in-training John Stewart) and his reluctant mentor Hal Jordan (Kyle Chandler) can be seen interrogating the man posing as Hector Hammond–a mysterious figure backed by an alien shapeshifter called a manhunter (Poorna Jagannathan) who, based on what we know, is the mastermind of an unknown conspiracy connected to a murder mystery in a rural Nebraska town.

Finally meeting the moment, Stewart asks, “Who are you?!” before slamming his hand on the table and shouting, “SPEAK UHP” in a strong South London bruvcent, breaking from his usually sturdy American accent.

Naturally, social media caught the slight slip-up and erupted with hilarious tweets, memes, videos, and endless reactions that immediately trended online.

Making the moment even funnier was the official HBO Max UK account getting in on the joke by posting a montage of Pierre with the caption, “you can take Aaron Pierre out of Croydon, but you can’t take the Croydon out of Aaron Pierre.”

For those late to the Lanterns party, Pierre is at the center of an extraterrestrial investigation that continues to swerve into a dark, twisted place every week with four episodes left in the addictive season.
