Subverting the norm to wear green for a mehendi ceremony, Kapoor chose a teal lehenga that was equal parts bohemian and modern traditionalist. Crafted with a fluid Banarasi fabric treated with bandhani, the look’s standout element was the handcrafted silk patola appliqué that served as a border on the blouse, skirt and the dupatta. It was further layered with mirror work, kasab, and cutdana embroideries for depth and lined with ghungroo and cowries, which added movement and sound to the look. The long, Rajasthani poshak-inspired choli featured a faux bodice that added some dimension to the blouse. While it is Mehta’s signature aesthetic involves elevating traditional handicraft techniques to feel modern and current, working with the Patola craft in a bridal look was a first for the designer. “When I was designing Anshula’s mehendi ensemble, I wanted it to feel joyful and unrestricted, but still rooted in Indian craft,” she shares with Vogue India. “It was about taking something as traditional as patola and making it feel modern and light.”
Kapoor’s jewellery followed suit with the bohemian undertone. Stylist Mohit Rai stacked necklaces featuring turquoise stones in many shapes and sizes from Jaipur-based jewellery brand Amrapali. Her antique earrings—also from Amrapali—featured matching turquoise along with red stones and pearls. For beauty, makeup artist Aashna Shah chose to keep Kapoor’s skin feeling fresh and natural with a coral lip, while hair artist Shivani Kakka kept her hair soft and open with a sleek half-up style with strings of purple button flowers cascading down from till the waist.
