FOX FOOTY lands Ken Hinkley in major AFL commentary shake-up

The long-serving coach, who guided Port Adelaide through four Preliminary Finals across his 12-year spell, will shift into an analysis role as part of Fox Footy’s year-round coverage, which streams on Kayo Sports. His arrival places him alongside Mark Ricciuto and Shaun Burgoyne, forming a commentary trio with deep ties to South Australian football.

Hinkley said he was looking forward to the change of pace and remaining close to the game.

“Joining the Fox Footy team is a great opportunity for me to work with some great people in our game and keep me closely connected to the game that I love.

“Hopefully I can give the footy fans some insight into how the modern game is played and coached today.

“I can’t wait to get started, particularly at Adelaide Oval with Roo and Shaun — should make Showdowns very exciting from the commentary box. Bring it on.”

Fox Sports Managing Director Steve Crawley said Hinkley’s immediate experience in the coaching ranks would be an asset to the coverage.

“In our game you can’t beat contemporary knowledge and Ken Hinkley comes to Fox Footy straight out of the AFL coaching trenches, bringing the insight and intensity that defined his 297 games as coach of Port Adelaide.

“A loyal family man and hardworking football figure, he adds instant credibility and experience to our commentary team. How good to hear him breaking down a SA Showdown alongside the greats in Mark Ricciuto and Shaun Burgoyne.”

Before his coaching career, Hinkley played 132 VFL/AFL games, including 121 for Geelong and 11 for Fitzroy. He was a three-time Grand Finalist, a two-time All-Australian, and claimed Geelong’s best and fairest in 1992.

As a coach, Hinkley led Port Adelaide through 297 matches, becoming the club’s longest-serving AFL coach. His earlier work included assistant coaching roles at St Kilda, Geelong and Gold Coast.

Fox Footy says every game of the 2026 Toyota AFL Premiership Season will stream live and ad-free during play on Kayo Sports.
