A former New Hampshire State Trooper faces a deferred prison sentence for making false reports to police about GPS devices he used to track his girlfriend.
James Lamoureux, 43, of Keene, New Hampshire, pleaded guilty in Keene District Court to one count of false reports to law enforcement, New Hampshire Attorney General John Formella said in a press release. His six-month prison sentence will be fully suspended for two years as part of a negotiated resolution.
A state investigation found that Lamoureux placed GPS tracking devices both on his own vehicle and a vehicle used by his then-girlfriend. He downloaded a tracking app to his phone to monitor the devices, according to Formella.
After his girlfriend confronted him, Lamoureux falsely told Keene police that he believed someone else had placed the tracking devices on the vehicles, though he knew he had done it himself, according to officials. He later asked an acquaintance to give police false information about the devices, the AG’s office said.
Lamoureux will immediately resign from the state police force and surrender his law enforcement certification, according to the AG’s office. He will be placed on the national registry of decertified officers and be prohibited from future employment as a law enforcement officer.
