The name’s Chittleborough. Coco Chittleborough.

And I like my martini’s, sorry my matcha’s hand-whisked. Not stirred.

And if you take your matcha as seriously as I take mine, I’ve got a spot for you

Tucked into the Myer Centre’s Lower Ground food court, right near Mamak Boy, you’ll find Matchacha -Adelaide’s newest stop for anyone who takes their matcha seriously; ceremonial-grade and hand-whisked only, thank you very much.

Having opened its doors on Thursday 3 July, this is a spot that knows exactly who it’s talking to: the matcha-curious, the matcha-obsessed, and, dare we say, the matcha snobs who turn up their noses at the sight of a pale green, watery excuse for a matcha.

Owner Daniel Chu said the team are excited to open the doors at the Myer Centre and share a love of matcha with the city.

“We created Matchacha because we felt there was room for a café that was completely dedicated to matcha and did it properly.”

“For us, quality comes first. We use ceremonial grade matcha sourced from Japan and every drink is hand whisked with a traditional bamboo whisk. It takes a little more time, but we genuinely believe you can taste the difference – and that’s something we never want to compromise on.”

The concept is simple: specialty matcha drinks made with ceremonial-grade matcha, hand-whisked to order rather than pre-made, with die-hard matcha fans able to upgrade to Ceremonial Nanako Matcha for the full premium experience.

“We love the tradition behind matcha, but we also love making it fun,” Daniel said.

“Alongside our classic drinks, we’ve created flavours like pistachio, strawberry, mango and banana matcha, so there’s something for both the matcha purists and people trying it for the first time.”

If you’ve ever seen a drink on your FYP and thought, “I’d like to try a sip of that,” there’s a fair chance you’ll find it here. Plus, there’s coffee and sweet treats in the mix too, for the plus-ones who still insist that matcha tastes like grass.

“Our Salted Maple Cream Cold Foam Matcha has definitely become the crowd favourite.”

Coinciding with the Myer Centre’s recent renovations, Matchacha is a welcome addition to the CBD food court’s recent glow-up. Fitted out with a bar decorated in indulgently vibrant dark green tones, crisp white tiles and hanging plants, this pocket-sized spot packs a visual punch.

With an outstanding opening weekend – $3 drinks brought droves of matcha enthusiasts through the Myer Centre’s doors.

“One of the things we’re most excited about is continuing to surprise our customers,” Daniel said.

“We’ll be introducing a new drink every month, while always staying true to the quality and care that goes into every cup.”

Matchacha has set the tone for what’s sure to be a beloved addition to the Myer Centre and Adelaide CBD at large.

“We can’t wait for people to come in, try something new and hopefully leave as matcha fans.”
