From a home kitchen, to the Adelaide Central Markets and now it’s very own home on Grenfell Street, Bun Voyage has travelled far and wide to now find a home for all to enjoy.

With no passport required, Bun Voyage, still takes you on a journey around the world with their internationally-inspired sweet treats.

Founder and star chef, Cherizza Filamor, works the dough like she’s done it a million times before, and that number may be closer to correct than some think.

Having trained as a chef for the past 17 years, Cherizza started the scroll business from her home kitchen before having the chance to be part of the Central Markets producer in residence program, which quickly built their popularity.

“People are naturally curious when they see flavours like ube, pistachio-kataifi or candied lemon on cinnamon scrolls, and it has been really special seeing customers become excited to try something different,” Cherizza said while in the markets.

“As a chef, being able to share my concept in such an iconic food destination feels surreal and very humbling.”

With the response in the market overwhelmingly positive, a brick-and-mortar for the scroll hot-spot felt like a natural move for the Filipino chef.

The menu takes the classic cinnamon scroll in a more playful direction, with each flavour loosely inspired by a different part of the world. The OG keeps things familiar with brown butter, cinnamon sugar and cream cheese frosting, while Manila Mania pairs earthy ube with aged cheddar for a sweet-savoury edge.

The richer options include Dubai Dream, layered with dark chocolate, house-made pistachio cream and crisp kataifi, and Brussels Bliss, finished with caramel and Biscoff. Paris Pleasure leans into crème brûlée territory, while Amalfi Feast brings a sharper hit of candied lemon curd.

There’s a local nod too, with Adelaide Delight topped with macerated berries, plus an ube latte on the drinks list for anyone wanting to carry the purple theme through to their coffee order.

Cherizza’s connection to bread-making goes back much further than Bun Voyage.

“In the Philippines, one of my strongest food memories is waking up in the morning to the smell of freshly baked bread coming from the local panaderia, the neighbourhood bakery.

“That smell meant breakfast, comfort and home, and I think that memory has stayed with me throughout my career.”

The new Grenfell Street space carries that same sense of warmth. Travel-inspired touches run throughout the bright shopfront, with greenery overhead and an open counter where Cherizza and her team prepare and serve the day’s bakes.

While the scrolls remain the main attraction, and are particularly good served warm, the new store also introduces a savoury side to Bun Voyage.

Pita folds come with fillings including vegetarian and butter chicken, with the folded bread toasted until crisp on the outside. They land somewhere between a sandwich and a toasted flatbread, and give regulars another reason to stop by beyond the sweets.

Drinks include the Signature Barako Brew, made using Barako coffee beans from the Philippines, continuing Cherizza’s connection to the flavours she grew up with.

So if you’re looking to travel from country to country through flavour, Bun Voyage, will be there from takeoff to touchdown, with sweet treats and more upon arrival.
