First look at Netflix’s MY BRILLIANT CAREER adaptation

Netflix has unveiled the first trailer for My Brilliant Career, offering audiences their first proper look at its adaptation of Miles Franklin’s iconic Australian novel.

The new original series stars Philippa Northeast as ambitious young writer Sybylla, whose determination to forge her own path is tested by family expectations, romance and the conventions of 1900 Australia.

The six-part drama follows Sybylla as she pursues her dream of becoming a writer while resisting pressure to marry, before an unexpected romance forces her to choose between love and the independent life she has imagined.

Philippa Northeast leads an ensemble cast that includes Christopher Chung, Anna Chancellor, Genevieve O’Reilly, Kate Mulvany, Jake Dunn, Alexander England, Sherry-Lee Watson and Miah Madden.

The series has been adapted for television by Liz Doran, with Alyssa McClelland and Anne Renton directing.

It is produced by Jungle Entertainment and was filmed in Adelaide, South Australia.

My Brilliant Career premieres Thursday, 13 August, exclusively on Netflix.
