The Boston Red Sox win their fifth consecutive game with a 6-3 victory over the Washington Nationals.
Boston continues its success through early run scoring and another quality start from Ranger Suarez, who pitched six inning, allowing three earned runs and striking out eight batters.
Despite a leadoff home run by James Wood to start the game, the Red Sox fired back in the bottom of the first, scoring four runs against Nationals starters Miles Mikolas. With two runners on base and one out, Willson Contreras belted a three-run home run to left field for his 18th home run of the season. And two at-bats later, Caleb Durbin delivered a solo home run for his seventh of the season.
Boston continued its offensive success in the second and third innings, recording consecutive RBI sac flies from Wilyer Abreu and Carlos Narváez.
Suarez kept the Nationals scoreless for four consecutive innings, but faced turbulence in the sixth inning, allowing a two-run RBI double to CJ Abrams with the bases loaded. Suarez was able to finish up the inning and give Boston its 13th consecutive quality start.
Danny Coloumbe and Tyron Guerrero pitched scoreless outings in the seventh and eighth innings, and Garrett Whitlock picked up his first save of the year to seal the win for the Red Sox.
Boston continues its series with the Nationals tomorrow at 7:10 with Connelly Early on the mound.
