The Boston Red Sox lose their fourth consecutive game in a 5-3 loss against the Blue Jays.
Patrick Sandoval picked up the loss in his start tonight, allowing four runs (two earned) in six innings on the mound. Sandoval’s final inning resulted in the game-winning run for Toronto, allowing six runners on base in his last two innings.
After trading runs in the third inning, Wilyer Abreu lead off the fourth with a solo home run to right field, and in the next inning, Ceddanne Rafaela did the same against Dylan Cease, smashing his own solo home run to lead off the fifth inning.
However, the Red Sox faced trouble in the bottom of the fifth. The Blue Jays bunted to put two runners in scoring position with one out, and Toronto scored two consecutive runs which tied the game 3-3.
Chad Tracy elected to keep Sandoval in the game for the sixth, and his starter allowed Toronto’s fourth run to give the Blue Jays their first lead of the game.
The Red Sox recorded just one hit past the fifth inning with a Masataka Yoshida double in the ninth inning. Boston left the tying run at home plate to extend its losing streak to four games.
Adley Rutschman made his Red Sox debut tonight, going 1-for-3 with a base hit and two walks. In total, Boston recorded seven hits with three of them going for extra bases.
The Red Sox will continue their four-game series against the Blue Jays tomorrow at 7:07 p.m. with Ranger Suarez on the mound.

Boston looks to snap a three-game losing streak against the Toronto Blue Jays with Adley Rustchman making his Red Sox debut.
The Red Sox designated veteran catcher Jake Rogers for assignment as part of activating Adley Rutschman. Boston hopes to retain Rogers, sources said. Rogers can’t be optioned to Triple-A without being offered to other teams via the waiver process. The Red Sox also cleared a second 40-man roster move by transferring injured infielder Isiah Kiner-Falefa to the 60-day IL.
