Farmer Wants A Wife’s Scarlett opens up about online bullying after Dylan leaves the show with Ally

Scarlett was eliminated from Farmer Wants A Wife on Sunday night when Dylan chose front-runner Ally in the finale.

The decision didn’t come as a surprise to Scarlett — or many viewers — but what may surprise fans is what happened after filming wrapped.

Despite the tears and drama, Scarlett, Ally and Dylan have remained close friends and even share a secret WhatsApp group chat.

Speaking to 7NEWS.com.au, the 22-year-old polo player from Victoria revealed the trio used the chat to debrief after each episode aired and to support one another through some difficult times, including online bullying and a recent break-up.

“It’s called The Final Three,” Scarlett said.

Scarlett said the group chat has become a safe space as they navigate the criticism that comes with being thrust into the spotlight.

“It can be quite scary when people are saying negative things, or things that aren’t too nice,” Scarlett said.

“It’s obviously hard to get through if you don’t have people beside you that have been through the same experience.”

Scarlett said most of the cruel comments from strangers online have been directed at her appearance.

“A lot of people are saying I’m ugly,” Scarlett said.

“I don’t know how people can come onto the internet and have no fear about saying what they’re saying because some of them are, like, disgusting.

“I would never, ever say that to even my worst enemy. I would never do that.”

“It kind of hit a little bit harder in the beginning but now, if I do get sent any horrible messages, I just laugh at them,” Scarlett said.

Although she suspected Dylan would choose Ally, Scarlett admitted she still held onto hope until the very end.

“There was a little bit of hope in me that it could go differently than what I thought it was going to go,” Scarlett admitted.

“I really thought he was going to choose Ally, which he did, but I still had a little bit of hope that Dylan could choose me.”

Scarlett said she’d never been in love before going on the show and hoped to find that special connection for the first time.

But her feelings for the rodeo cowboy were real and were the main reason she chose to stay, despite feeling “disrespected” by Ally and Dylan’s kiss at that event.

Scarlett is adamant viewers saw the real Dylan and believes his feelings for both women were genuine.

“I think he did have very strong feelings for both of us,” Scarlett said.

She also believes Ally’s temporary departure made Dylan realise just how much she meant to him: “It made Dylan realise how important their connection was to him.”

The home visits later raised fresh concerns for Dylan, who questioned whether Scarlett’s “privileged” upbringing would make them incompatible.

During their final date, the sheep farmer admitted he was worried he couldn’t provide the lifestyle Scarlett was used to.

The 22-year-old said it was the first time he’d raised those concerns and this “p***** her off”.

“I was so angry because I felt like I was misunderstood by him and he didn’t truly understand who I am as a person,” Scarlett said.

“I did give him reassurances, I told him, ‘I’m not after someone who can provide things to me aside from respect, genuine connection and honesty’.

“That’s all I’m after. I’m not after someone that has a private jet or someone that can take me all these different places.”

Scarlett acknowledged her family has been fortunate and said she’s grateful for the opportunities she’s had, including studying abroad and travelling the world.

“I think maybe that scared him a little bit,” Scarlett said.

“But when two people bring two completely different worlds to the table, there’s actually beauty you can find in that.

“I guess Dylan and I just view it very differently.”

While Dylan broke down in tears as he told Scarlett she wasn’t the one, the polo player had already prepared herself for heartbreak.

“It was definitely a protective mechanism,” Scarlett said.

“But at the end of the day, if he’s not choosing me, he’s not my person.

“And at that point, I kind of realised what I deserved — I want someone to choose me every single day.

“This is another door opening for me in a sense that there’s someone out there for me who’s waiting for me.

“It’s just unfortunately not Dylan.”

Scarlett said she and Dylan didn’t speak immediately after filming ended but have since reconnected.

“At the time, I wasn’t really ready to speak to her because I was so overwhelmed,” Scarlett said.

“I was a bit all over the place but then we did reconnect.

“Ally is one of my bestest friends. She’s actually flying down to Melbourne to see me.”

After filming wrapped, Scarlett entered a relationship that has since ended, but she said Farmer Wants A Wife changed the way she approaches love.

“I don’t want people that are going to mess around with me,” Scarlett said.

“I learned from my relationship with Dylan on the show that men can be vulnerable and they can open up.

“It was really beautiful to leave the experience knowing there are good guys out there.”
