An Australian father of four allegedly attacked while on holiday in Bali has died after a days-long fight for life.
Paul Dougan had been in intensive care for the last 10 days and underwent three surgeries before his son Liam Dougan announced late on Thursday his father had passed away.
“It wasn’t meant to be this way Dad,” Liam wrote on Instagram.

While Dougan was fighting for life in intensive care, his son claimed the Perth dad, known as Rabbit to those close to him, had been the victim of an alleged assault.
Liam believes Australians were behind the alleged attack.
“This was not an accident. Dad did not simply pass away,” he alleged on Friday.
“They kicked and beat my dad leaving him in a life-threatening condition, leaving him dead.
“They are the reason I will never see my dad again. They are the reason my kids one day won’t meet their pop.
“Why did this happen? Why my dad? Questions that I will never the answer to.”
On Thursday, police visited the Kuta bar where the alleged assault took place almost two weeks ago.
“They will be found, there will be justice, but none of this will bring dad back,” Liam wrote.

His family made a desperate dash to the popular tourist island to be by Dougan’s bedside before his death on Thursday.
An online fundraiser has raised more than $50,000 as of Friday morning to support the family. They had originally planned for Dougan to spend at least another week in intensive care before hoping to fly him home.
The family thanked everyone for the support through the “incredibly difficult” time.
“You don’t understand how much this means to the Dougan family,” Liam said.
