Greece is emerging as the new luxury hotspot for big-ticket Indian weddings, with Athens set to host two high-profile celebrations over the next two weeks.
Both festivities will be held at the iconic Four Seasons Astir Palace Hotel Athens, the 75-acre pine-clad peninsula resort in Vouliagmeni on the Athens Riviera, just 30 minutes from central Athens.
The first, slated for Oct 31 – Nov 1, will be a complete buyout of the 303-key resort by a prominent business family from Ahmedabad. The three-day celebration is expected to be a lavish affair with top names from the world of entertainment and talent in attendance.
The second celebration, on November 11, will also be hosted at the Four Seasons Athens. An intimate celebration for the daughter of a prominent Chennai media baron who is set to marry a well-known music composer from Chennai. The Athens celebration will be an intimate, close-family affair, followed by a grand reception at ITC Grand Chola, Chennai.
About the venue: Opened as Astir Palace in the 1960s and host to icons from Brigitte Bardot to Frank Sinatra and Jackie Onassis, the property reopened as Four Seasons in 2019 after a $700M redevelopment. It features 303 sea-facing rooms and suites (40 to 450 sqm) across Arion, Nafsika and the legendary 1961 Bungalows, 8 restaurants and bars including Michelin-starred Pelagos, Taverna 37 and Mercato, a Hippocrates-inspired spa, and three private beaches. Ranked No.27 in the World’s 50 Best Hotels 2026 — the highest-ranked hotel in Greece.
With the Gulf currently off the radar for many families, Thailand, Bali, Sri Lanka and Vietnam continue to be popular. However, planners say Europe will be the big draw in the coming months and well into next summer — if not for the main wedding, then for pre- and post-wedding getaways.
Wedding planners anticipate a surge in demand for boutique luxury properties across Greece, France, Spain, Italy and Austria in 2027. While most of these properties aren’t equipped to handle a large-scale Indian wedding — unless it’s a billionaire family flying in a crew of 600 for a guest list of 200-300 — they are ideal for intimate and buyout celebrations.
While Italy was in the spotlight post the Jindal wedding and Virushka and Deepika-Ranveer’s weddings, France has also been hosting celebrations in Cannes and Monte Carlo, with a few families opting for Paris as well.
It remains to be seen how this double booking will further cement Greece as the preferred luxury wedding destination for super affluent Indians.
