Sir a second Eagles storyline has hit the offseason. We all know about the AJ Brown trade rumors that have dominated the Eagles offseason. Well what it if I told you that Jeremy Fowler has struck a second tower in the Eagles community. Also this news isn’t recent, kind of like 9/11 (but we’ll never forget). Sorry, I forgot I should intro the article. The main point of this will be to examine the examinations of the Jalen Hurts article.

I alluded to it but Jeremy Fowler had an article that rocked the foundation of the franchise. I’ll summarize it, QB in a major city that didn’t just win the Super Bowl has critics both inside and out. It gave a lot of people a nice easy day of work. In other words, they got to react to the article in a click bait manner. “But aren’t that what you’re doing?” Yes, but we’re also going to look at some of the responses.

I do have thoughts about the article after reading. Can’t just criticize without offering others the chance to see my thoughts. That said, you can’t just write off everything that was said in the article. The truth is that Jalen Hurts is not a perfect quarterback. He should not be above reproach and I think the article did a fair job of highlighting issues. What I don’t think is fair is some of the responses or interpretations by many others.

Some people did use critical reading analysis and overall intelligence when reacting to the article. Chris Long had a great take when it came to reviewing it. You can find a link to the video below. I think the important point brought up is that there are three camps a reader can be in.

First is the Jalen Hurts’ Stan camp where Jalen can do nothing wrong and the media is out to get him. Second is the opposite where Jalen Hurts can do nothing right and the players carried him while being a subpar quarterback. The third (which is where I am so therefore it’s the right camp) is like Chris and I say. He steps up so well in big moments but he’s not perfect and has opportunities to grow. He also is hesitant to change and do things that make him uncomfortable, like most human beings when forced to change.

Next let’s take a look at everybody’s favorite programming when it comes to intelligent and nuanced takes, sports radio. I get that it’s hard to talk about football, specifically in the offseason, for around 8 hours everyday without being repetitive. That said, if this article makes you start predicting the rest of Hurts’ career, maybe relax. Spike, if somehow you’re reading this, please reach out with lottery ball numbers, Super Bowl winners, and when I’m going to die. It’s the same type of guessing that doesn’t help.

I also saw the take that “Winning Super Bowl MVP doesn’t mean much.” I’m referencing the Joe Giglio video below. First off, it means everything to the player themselves, winning at the highest stage and being awarded the best player on the field seems good. It’s not like it’s only happened 60 times. If you take out repeats, you don’t even have a full NFL roster. Also this take discredits the “It” factor some players possess. Personally I think having evidence of playing well in big moments is important for the next one. It also helps when a player retires and finds a career after football. Pretty sure most people would rather be Julian Edelman over Antonio Brown.

Speaking of people beloved by Boston sports fans, we have Colin Cowherd’s thoughts. If there’s one guy you should look for in Philly-based analysis, it’s a guy from Boston. I have the article but this is textbook fanning the flames. Adds nothing of value other than to project it to a wider audience and add onto the bad parts. What gave it away was, “the quarterback, who has critics, is getting all the credit and the roster’s stacked, and when they do infrequently lose, the roster gets the blame, and the quarterback doesn’t.” If you think Jalen gets all the credit for a win and none in a loss then we can end it there. If anything the Fowler article goes directly in the face of that argument.

At the end of the day, there’s always something with the Eagles. Happens when you’re a massive media market, and a team that recently has had some success. We’ll keep on hearing some new story and should the Eagles have a repeat of last year, more people are going to come out of the woodwork with their high level analysis. Regardless, it’s going to be a Go Birds here every time.
