Former bureaucrat Ashish Joshi has returned home after he was taken away by the police from Delhi’s Nehru Park while he was out for a morning walk. “Just got back home. Delhi Special Cell dropped me home. Details later,” he posted on X on Wednesday evening.
Earlier in the day, Congress leader Sandeep Dikshit claimed that Joshi was taken away by two Delhi Police constables from Nehru Park while he was out for his morning walk, and said his whereabouts were not known, reported PTI.
Delhi Police has not officially confirmed any detention or arrest of Joshi and has not issued a statement on Dikshit’s allegation.
Dikshit said Joshi, whom he described as a close friend who retired as an additional secretary a few months ago, had called him in the morning, but he could not answer. He said that when he called back, Joshi’s phone was switched off, PTI reported.
In a video statement, Dikshit said an eyewitness who had been walking with Joshi told the family that two police personnel arrived and said they had to take him with them for questioning over a recent tweet.
According to Dikshit, the policemen told Joshi they were taking him to the Special Cell police station in New Friends Colony and made him sit in his own car.
Dikshit further claimed that Joshi’s car was later found parked at the New Friends Colony police station. “We sent people there, including lawyers, but nobody was ready to confirm where Joshi was,” he said.
He also said attempts to locate Joshi at several Special Cell offices and at the Delhi Police headquarters did not yield any information. “We don’t know which two constables took him or where he was taken to,” Dikshit said.
In a post on X, Dikshit urged the Delhi Police Commissioner to disclose Joshi’s whereabouts, saying his family was “extremely worried.
