Enzo Fernandez has defended Argentina’s tactics at the World Cup, saying the squad represented the nation “in the best possible way”.
The midfielder was sent off just before full-time for a reckless challenge on Spain’s Pau Cubarsi, sending the defender flying into the air.
Ugly scenes kicked off after the game, with Argentina’s Leandro Paredes and Nahuel Molina escalating physical altercations.
Despite this, the Chelsea midfielder feels the team’s behaviour showed their “never giving up” attitude.
He wrote on social media: “As time goes by, you realise there is something much bigger than just a result.
“For years, this group has represented the team in the best possible way.
“It teaches that competing isn’t just about winning; it’s about giving your all for the jersey and never giving up.
“It has been a privilege to be part of a group that always stepped up, competed at the highest level, and defended these colours with pride, humility, and commitment.”

FIFA have confirmed they will review the brawl at the end of the World Cup final between Spain and Argentina.
Paredes appeared to push Eric Garcia by the throat and punch Spain’s Gavi, while Molina threw hands at Rodri.
The match commissioner’s report will be reviewed within FIFA before any decision is taken regarding disciplinary proceedings.
Argentina came under heavy criticism for their antics at the end of the game, with former England striker Alan Shearer labelling it as “disgusting”.

The South Americans’ behaviour throughout the tournament raised scrutiny, particularly in their semi-final against England.
After beating the Three Lions 2-1, Argentina’s players paraded a banner proclaiming Argentinian sovereignty over the Falkland Islands.
The act was allegedly in direct contravention of Article 34.3 of the tournament regulations.
FIFA has previously taken a hard line with political gestures, such as telling the English FA that Harry Kane would start with a yellow card if he wore a “OneLove” rainbow-themed armband at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, where it is illegal to be homosexual.
