Thomas Tuchel is reportedly facing a battle to regain the complete trust of his England players following their painful World Cup semi-final defeat by Argentina.
Doubts are said to remain within the squad over whether the German can consistently extract the best from his players and lead the Three Lions to glory at the next European Championship.
Tuchel has attempted to draw a line under the tournament, claiming “99.9 per cent” of supporters he encounters prefer discussing England’s memorable victories rather than his tactical decisions against Argentina.
However, the Telegraph reports that several players were shocked and disappointed by Tuchel’s approach during the final 30 minutes of the semi-final.
Some unhappiness reportedly remains over his response to the defeat and his suggestion that keeping possession was not in England’s “DNA”.
One source told the publication that Tuchel still had work to do to repair the damage caused during the tournament.
“He still has work to do to get all the players fully behind him again,” the source said.
“What happened at the World Cup and some of his comments caused some damage that has not just disappeared.”

Tuchel has repeatedly spoken about building a “brotherhood” within the England squad and insists he has no concerns regarding his players’ commitment.
“I have no doubt how keen they are,” he said. “I know them, I was seven weeks with them.
“We had a qualification campaign together, we are 18 months together, I have no doubt that we step up and produce performances in the next cycle. I’m responsible for that.”
Tuchel also rejected the suggestion that supporters have confronted him over the substitutions and tactical changes made during England’s defeat in Atlanta.

GETTYHe claimed fans instead discuss the victories over Mexico, Croatia and Congo, as well as England’s remarkable 6-4 triumph over France in the bronze-medal match.
“I tell you something, like 99.9 per cent of the fans don’t speak about substitutions, tactical twists,” Tuchel said.
“They speak about where they watched the Mexico game and the energy of the Croatia match.
“This is what a World Cup is for, to connect with the people and to give them experiences that they will not forget.”
The Football Association publicly supported Tuchel following England’s elimination, but the manager revealed his employers had privately assured him of his position before the last-16 victory over Mexico.
Tuchel has now named his first post-World Cup squad for four Nations League fixtures against Spain, Croatia and the Czech Republic.
Cole Palmer and Trent Alexander-Arnold are back in the England fold

Cole Palmer and Trent Alexander-Arnold have been recalled after missing the tournament, although Tuchel warned both players that they must fight to establish themselves.
“It is one thing to be nominated and get your ticket back in the squad, but it’s another thing to play and keep your place,” Tuchel said of Palmer.
Alexander-Arnold has been selected as a right-back rather than a midfielder, with Tuchel insisting the Real Madrid star must prove he can satisfy England’s defensive demands.
“He has to,” Tuchel said. “It’s necessary. My conviction is that he will, but he has no choice.”
