CAP-HAÏTIEN — It just had to be Melchie Dumornay again. The Haitian superstar helped OL Lyonnes collect another silverware, scoring the lone goal of a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Paris Saint-Germain in the final of the Coupe de Ligue on March 14.

It was the first edition of Coupe de la Ligue Féminine de Football Professionnel (LFPP), French for Women’s Professional Football League Cup. Although the competition was France-based, the final was held at the Félix Houphouët-Boigny Stadium in Abidjan, Ivory Coast.

Haitians across the world were thrilled to witness yet another momentous accomplishment in the Mirebalais native’s career and took to social media to express their joy.

“Today is Sunday, we woke up happy because Melchie Dumornay did it again this weekend,” sports reporter Caleb Jephte Pierre posted on Facebook. “A girl from home went all the way to Abidjan with OL Lyonnes to play in a final against Paris Saint-Germain. Well, she scored the only goal that gave her club the trophy. Haitian pride.”

Dumornay steered a low-shot into the net in the 59th minute after an exquisite series of passes to open the scoring, lifting thousands of fans from their seats. It was the second time Dumornay scored the first goal in a final for OL Lyonnes during her three years with the club thus far. The 22-year-old also scored the opener in the final of Trophée des Championnes in 2023, helping OL Lyonnes conquer Paris Saint-Germain 2-0 to collect the silverware.

Dumornay has helped OL Lyonnes win four titles during her three years with the club and reached the UEFA Champions League final in 2024. The Haitian was the second-highest scorer in D1 Arkema last season, helping OL Lyonnes win the title. The French side also won the league during the 2023-24 season, making it four pieces of silverware since Dumornay joined them.

When OL Lyonnes reached the UEFA Champions League final in 2024, Dumornay scored two goals and two assists, including a game-winning goal and a game-winning assist in two matches versus Paris in the semi-finals. With those performances, Dumornay proves to be a player who shows up in big games and has established herself as one of OL Lyonnes’ most productive players in recent years.

Durmornay has the opportunity to collect three more trophies with OL Lyonnes this season: D1 Arkema, Coupe de France and the Champions League. OL Lyonnes sits on top of D1 Arkema by 15 points and is in the quarterfinals of the Champions League and the Coupe de France. The French side will face Wolfsburg on March 24 in the first leg of the Champions League quarterfinals and will take on Le Havre in the Coupe de France final on March 18.
