Dubai runner, 12, takes on 200km-plus charity challeng

Twelve-year-old Dubai runner Amèlie Sophia Davies will attempt to cover more than 200 kilometres during September to raise money for The Sparkle Foundation.

The month-long challenge will support the charity’s work with children and families in Malawi.

It will be the second year Amèlie has used her running to raise funds. She completed a 100km challenge last year and has decided to more than double that distance in 2026.

“I know how lucky I am to have the opportunities I have, and I want to use something I love, running, to help children who deserve the same opportunities,” Amèlie said.

“Last year I ran 100 km, so this year I wanted to challenge myself to go even further.”

Amèlie started running three years ago and has since become a regular competitor at events in Dubai, recording a number of podium finishes.

Her September schedule will have to fit around school at RGSGD and her usual athletics training.

She is receiving training support from Ultimate Athletics and her running coach, Coach Peter, along with members of Dubai’s Kenyan running community and New Auto Activity.

The target means Amèlie will need to average more than 6.6km per day across September to pass the 200km mark.

Her fundraising will support The Sparkle Foundation through YallaGive, with the campaign operating under IACAD permit number PRHCE-00589538.

Amèlie is also encouraging people across the UAE to follow the challenge, donate and share her progress during the month.

Her running can be followed on Instagram at @amelie_on_the_run.
