Exclusive digital auction opens doors to distinctive plate combinations
Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority is set to capture the attention of vehicle owners and collectors with the launch of its latest online premium number plate auction. As part of its continued push toward digital-first services, the authority has announced the 82nd online auction, which will feature 300 premium number plates available for bidding through a transparent and fully digital platform.
The upcoming auction reinforces Dubai RTA’s commitment to offering customers greater accessibility, fairness, and convenience while meeting strong demand for distinctive vehicle registration numbers across the emirate.
Wide range of premium plate combinations on offer
The auction will include an extensive selection of premium number plates designed to appeal to a broad spectrum of buyers. Available combinations will feature 2-digit, 3-digit, 4-digit, and 5-digit numbers, offering varying levels of exclusivity and prestige.
Plate codes included in the auction are H, I, K, M, N, O, P, Q, R, S, T, U, V, W, X, Y, and Z. These codes will cover private vehicles, classic vehicles, and motorcycles, ensuring that collectors and everyday vehicle owners alike can find options suited to their preferences.
Premium number plates have long been regarded in Dubai as symbols of individuality and status, with demand remaining consistently strong. Limited availability and unique combinations often make these auctions highly competitive, attracting bidders who value exclusivity and personal expression.
Online auction designed for transparency and ease
Dubai RTA has structured the auction to be conducted entirely online, ensuring a clear and transparent bidding process. The digital platform allows participants to browse available plate numbers, track bidding activity in real time, and place bids securely without the need for physical attendance.
This approach aligns with the authority’s broader digital transformation strategy, which aims to simplify customer journeys while maintaining high standards of governance and operational clarity. By offering a fully online experience, Dubai RTA continues to modernise its services while catering to a tech-savvy audience.
Key dates for registration and bidding
Registration for the online auction will open on February 2, giving interested participants sufficient time to complete the required formalities. Bidding is scheduled to begin on February 9 and will remain open for seven days only.
This fixed bidding window is expected to intensify competition, as bidders act swiftly to secure their preferred plate combinations. All successful bids will be subject to a 5 percent Value Added Tax, in accordance with existing regulations.
Eligibility requirements for participation
Participation in the auction is limited to customers who hold an active traffic file in the emirate of Dubai. This requirement ensures that all bidders are registered vehicle owners or eligible users within the local traffic system.
Dubai RTA has clearly outlined participation conditions to maintain fairness and efficiency throughout the auction process. Interested bidders must complete registration before bidding begins to be eligible to participate.
Registration process and required fees
To take part in the auction, participants are required to submit a refundable security cheque payable to Dubai RTA with a value of AED 5,000. In addition, a non-refundable registration fee of AED 120 applies to all bidders.
Customers may complete registration in person at Customer Happiness Centers located in Umm Ramool, Al Barsha, and Deira. For added convenience, registration can also be completed online using a credit card through the official Dubai RTA website.
These flexible registration options ensure that customers can choose the method that best suits their preferences, whether digital or in-person.
Payment timelines for successful bidders
Winning bidders are required to settle the payable amount within 10 working days from the date the auction closes. This payment window allows sufficient time for financial arrangements while ensuring timely completion of the transaction.
Dubai RTA has structured payment methods to accommodate a wide range of customers. Payments of up to AED 50,000 may be made in cash at authorised service provider centres. For amounts exceeding AED 50,000, payments must be completed using a manager’s cheque or credit card.
Payments can be made either at Customer Happiness Centers or through the online platform, reinforcing the authority’s emphasis on customer convenience and operational efficiency.
Streamlined process focused on customer convenience
The auction framework reflects Dubai RTA’s ongoing efforts to streamline administrative processes without compromising clarity or fairness. By combining clear eligibility criteria, flexible registration options, and multiple payment channels, the authority aims to deliver a smooth and user-friendly auction experience.
Each stage of the process, from registration to final payment, has been designed to minimise delays and provide bidders with clear expectations.
Continued demand for premium number plates in Dubai
Premium number plates remain highly sought after in Dubai, driven by a culture that values personalisation, distinction, and exclusivity. For many vehicle owners, a unique plate number is more than a registration requirement—it is a statement of identity.
Collectors and investors also view premium plates as valuable assets, with select combinations often appreciating over time. The limited number of plates available in each auction adds to their appeal, making every bidding cycle a closely watched event.
Digital services shaping the future of RTA auctions
The upcoming auction highlights Dubai RTA’s broader focus on expanding digital services across its operations. By leveraging online platforms, the authority continues to reduce reliance on physical processes while offering customers greater accessibility and control.
This digital approach not only improves efficiency but also supports Dubai’s wider vision of smart governance and innovation-led public services.
Strong interest expected during the seven-day bidding window
Given the limited availability of premium combinations and the growing popularity of online auctions, strong participation is expected throughout the seven-day bidding period. Vehicle owners, collectors, and enthusiasts are likely to compete actively for standout numbers, particularly rare low-digit plates.
As bidding progresses, the auction is expected to generate significant engagement, reinforcing the enduring appeal of premium number plates in the emirate.
