If you’ve driven into The Dubai Mall anytime over the past year, you’ve probably felt it that slight hesitation at the parking barrier, wondering if this trip is about to cost more than your Zara haul.
We felt it too.
During our last visit on a packed Thursday evening (the kind where the fountain crowd spills into Fashion Avenue), we noticed something interesting: while most cars queued into Grand Parking, a steady stream peeled off toward Zabeel and clearly, they knew something others didn’t.
So here’s the deal — Dubai Mall parking isn’t fully free anymore
Since mid-2024, Dubai Mall introduced a paid parking system powered by automatic plate recognition. No tickets, no machines just drive in, and your Salik account gets charged if you overstay.
Here’s how it currently works:
- Weekdays (Mon–Thu): First 4 hours free
- Weekends (Fri–Sun): First 6 hours free
- After that, charges escalate quickly and not subtly
From our perspective covering Dubai’s retail scen
e, this shift wasn’t surprising. With footfall hitting record highs post-Expo and malls evolving into full-day lifestyle hubs, monetising parking was always on the horizon.
But here’s the insider move — where regulars are parking now
If you’re planning to spend the entire day shopping, dining, maybe even catching a late-night film there are still two spots where parking stays completely free.
1. Dubai Mall Zabeel Parking
Frequent mall-goers have quietly made this their go-to.
Located off Al Khail Road, Zabeel isn’t just an overflow it’s practically its own destination. Think wide parking decks, smoother access (especially on weekends), and a quick 2-minute walk via a link bridge straight into the main mall.
When we crossed over last week, we landed right near Grand Parking minus the chaos.
And honestly? It feels like a smarter entry point if you’re heading toward Fashion Avenue or the central atrium.
2. Fountain Views Parking
On the other side, across Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Boulevard, Fountain Views offers another underrated hack.
This area has its own ecosystem licensed restaurants, cafés, a cinema, even a supermarket and crucially, no parking charges for extended stays.
From there, you can either:
- Walk across the bridge into Chinatown
- Or cross the boulevard directly into the mall extension
We’ve used this route during peak Ramadan nights, and it saved us both time and dirhams.
Why this matters right now
Dubai Mall isn’t just a mall anymore it’s a full-day experience. Between influencer meetups, pop-ups, brand activations, and late-night dining, people are staying longer than ever.
And with parking fees climbing steeply after the free window, knowing these alternate spots isn’t just helpful it’s essential.
From our editorial lens, this is a classic Dubai move: premium convenience comes at a price, but if you know the city well enough, there’s always a smarter workaround.
