Dubai Hurricanes have added basketball as their fourth sport, extending the community club’s programme beyond rugby, netball and cricket.
The new section, named Dubai Hurricanes BB Hustlers, is accepting registrations for the 2026/27 season. It will include age groups from U8 to U18, plus adult basketball for men and women.
Training will take place at JESS Arabian Ranches, with the programme open to beginners and experienced players. The club is also offering free taster sessions for young players before they register.
Former Syria youth international – Azmi Abd Al Noor
Former Syria youth international Azmi Abd Al Nour has been appointed basketball director.
Abd Al Nour represented Syria at the 2009 FIBA U19 World Championship in New Zealand. He later played professionally in Syria, Qatar and the UAE, representing clubs including Ittihad Aleppo, Al Wakrah, Baniyas, Sharjah, Al Batayeh, Al Wasl and Shabab Al Ahli.
His time in UAE basketball included league and cup titles. He has also coached at several academies since 2012, alongside his playing career.
Abd Al Nour said the Hurricanes’ community club structure was one of the main reasons he accepted the role.

“Hurricanes is a non-profit built purely to make players and teams better, across rugby, netball, cricket and now basketball,” he said.
“Every dirham goes back into development. I believe in that mission, coaches, volunteers and medical staff all working for future generations.”
Abd Al Nour has spent much of the past eight years playing in Dubai. He said stepping away from the professional game had given him the chance to put more time into coaching.
His aim is to create a programme where players can learn the basics, enjoy the sport and improve at a pace that suits them.
Training will cover ball handling, shooting, passing, movement and game awareness. Players will also work on communication and decision-making through match situations.
Abd Al Nour said players with ambitions to compete at a higher level would receive added support, including those targeting club basketball, national selection, scholarships or professional opportunities.
He also wants the programme to help players become more confident away from the court.
“This is my chance to help the next generation learn from experience and reach heights I only dreamed of,” he said.
“Hurricanes Basketball is building a healthy, structured environment where every player learns and genuinely enjoys the game.”
Registration is open for the 2026/27 season, with youth and adult membership options available through Dubai Hurricanes.
